The Dogs

Oh, Lola. Lola is a petite pit bull mix living in northern Colorado. Her litter was abandoned when she was just two weeks old but luckily someone found out the pups were left alone and saved her and her siblings. However, the family that saved Lola (formerly, Chevelle) could only keep her for so long, but she is now living the life! We were in no way planning to take in a dog when we found out about Lola, but after we met it was clear what would be happening. Lola’s favorite activities are playing disc, flyball, fetching, hiking, eating, eating, and sleeping in!

Although we’re sure Lola enjoyed being an only fur-child we couldn’t resist another dog. In October of 2013 we adopted Rio (formerly Leo) from Save-A-Bull Rescue in Minnesota. He is also a pit bull mix.

About Rio

Rio was born in August of 2013 (best estimate) and was originally a Craigslist puppy. Save-A-Bull Rescue, based out of Minnesota, pulled him from the site and he went into a foster home. Shortly after that, he miraculously ended up coming home with us!

Rio has had an exciting puppyhood though to say the least.

Two short weeks after we adopted him, Rio went in to undergo surgery for a fractured joint. Thankfully the surgery was successful and he has made a full recovery and can even keep up with Miss Lola!

We plan to train Rio to become a therapy dog and will keep you posted on our adventures.

In addition to these two, you’ll also see the occasional foster dog on this blog as we like to help out whenever we can.

We’d be honored to have you join us through this positive journey as pit bulls.

  1. I came across Lola.com then continued reading about Rio, then read on about you fostering. I have read many stories about Foster parents and how much I admire the wonderful people who do this. I know you have to be a very special person to do this. I know it would be so rewarding saving lives. I would probably get so attached, I couldn’t let any of them go. I already have 3 babies. So I share and reshape Death Row Dogs. And I cry my eyes out every day. It’s like I’m addicted to it. Even though every now and then I have to step back and compose myself. I donate as much as I can. I feel so bad for the little Petties that are tortured and euthanized. Someday, I believe a no kill America will come to pass. I just hope it’s in my lifetime.
Your little babies are adorable. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for the kind comment, Georgia – thanks for all you do in the rescue world 🙂

  2. Rio looks exactly like my pup Luna. I saw a picture on instagram and had to double take because I thought someone was stealing pictures of my dog!

  3. Hi,

Just found out about the site as we recently adopted a pitbull mix puppy from the Humane Society who’s name also happens to be Lola. Just curious, how much does your Lola weigh? Our dog is 17lbs at 3 mos old and i wanted to get a ballpark figure of what her adult weight would be.

    Thank you.

    1. Lola is about 38lbs – she’s just a petite little pitty. It truly depends what she’s mixed with, but already being 17lbs, I’m betting your Lola will be bigger than ours :). Good luck with your new puppy!!!
